The Junaluska neighborhood is one of Boone's oldest communities, a historically black community with origins dating back to at least the mid-19th century. However, their community is dying out due to gentrification, pressure from prospective land buyers in Boone, and a lack of of opportunities for young adults in the community. Now, the neighborhood is quiet, still, save for the few dog walkers and porch dwellers.
